And, when you think about it, this makes sense. After all, who has the most Twitter followers? Is it some online marketing whiz? Some tech genius who knows how to master and perhaps manipulate social media and the search engines? Absolutely not!
It’s Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Barack Obama, Taylor Swift and these other 96 people.
So, perhaps, instead of researching valuable Twitter Business Tips, you should just go out and get yourself the latest fashionable sunglasses and then show pictures of how hot and successful you are!
Lifestyle Marketing: It’s Hot and You’re Not
Guess what I was doing prior to writing this article? I was listening to this video interview with Neil Patel on how he grew the Kissmetrics blog from 0 to 350,000 a month.Neil Patel is a master of online marketing and he shows up in many places when researching how to expand your online audience. As I am always looking for new techniques to improve online marketing success for customers of The SEO System, I come across Neil quite a bit.
And lately, he’s been writing a lot about “lifestyle” marketing. He wrote two posts in December entitled How a Ferrari Made Me a Million Bucks and How Spending $162,301.42 on Clothes Made Me $692,500. In these articles, we see Neil in fancy homes, expensive cars, donning the best designer wear, and wearing watches that would pay off the down payment on your house. And, it’s working…as this feature on CNN attests.
Is a rap video in the waiting? Big pimpin’ with Neil? As we look again at the top 100 Twitter list, it could make sense: it seems that nearly half of the Twitter top 100 are musicians!
But seriously, the question is: Should you, or your business, engage in some sort of lifestyle marketing? Are you hot enough?
Lifestyle Marketing is Simply About the Basics of Life
The reason that I love Neil’s approach to lifestyle marketing is that he takes a small, known idea (I must look like I’m a success to be a success) and amplifies it ten-fold (I won’t just buy a nice car–Ferrari here I come!).
But the message is as simple and basic as in this line from Kevin Spacey’s character in American Beauty: “In order to be successful, one must project an image of success at all times.”
Not everyone has the gumption (or the cash) to go all in with lifestyle marketing as Neil Patel has done. However, you need to ask yourself a simple question: Are you or your business projecting success and can you embrace this as a lifestyle marketing tactic?
